Graham's weblog: 24th July: Brands
Brands Hatch – a long haul. Brands hatch is the farthest circuit we have had to travel to, and I very nearly missed it. The wife’s shifts fell awkwardly and there was no way I could travel to Brands with the Browns. Fortunately the Webmaster's dad decided on a short break to England and very kindly took in Brands Hatch. We drove through the night and arrived Friday morning. Kenny had had to change the clutch seals on Thursday night but had everything in place for the start of practice when we arrived.
Qualifying David is coming on and it did not take him long to get into the grove. All went well on Friday but qualifying was not so good and we were second last, only a few tenths down. This is understandable given the lack of practice that David has had on most of the circuits but he is still improving as a driver and our best lap is usually the last one of the weekend. The weather was out of this world, with temperatures reaching 35°C.
Race one It rained for the first race and everyone bar the last qualifier started on wets. We wanted to go on slicks but David has had no experience of them on a damp track so we decided to go with the others and play safe. It backfired as we could only manage second in class, beaten by the man on slicks. Better safe than sorry. We would have looked silly if he had spun out on the damp track.
Race two This was a good dry race and David drove well. The poor qualifying position meant he had little chance to win the class but did everything he could. Two 2nd places and a fastest lap were good results to get. Roll on Rockingham.
Next race: ROCKINGHAM
